Pickens County in upstate South Carolina... * Until 630 AM EDT Friday. * At 1228 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated another round of heavy 1 to 2 inch per hour rainfall rates pushing into the warned area from the south. Nuisance flooding is likely already ongoing, and flash flooding will likely begin shortly in many areas. A stream gauge along Twelve Mile Creek near Liberty, SC indicates rapid rises already, and many nearby tributaries are likely out of their banks. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Easley, Clemson, Seneca, Walhalla, Pickens, Greer, Taylors, Berea, Travelers Rest, Central, Pendleton, Liberty, Westminster, Slater-Marietta, Norris, Six Mile, Salem, Lake Keowee, Keowee Toxaway State Park and Oconee State Park.

Heavy rain is increasing the risk of landslides, especially in areas where slides have occurred in the past. Be especially alert if you are near a stream, especially at the base of a mountain or in a cove. Watch for loose-moving soil and rocks or a sudden increase in streamflow. Leave the area quickly if this is observed. When driving along roads where the terrain is steep or rocky, watch and listen for falling rocks, mud, trees and other debris. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
