...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in
Tennessee...
Pigeon River At Newport TN affecting Cocke County.
For the Pigeon River...including Newport TN...Major flooding is
forecast.
* WHAT...Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast.
This approaches the flood of record.
* WHERE...Pigeon River at Newport TN.
* WHEN...Until further notice.
* IMPACTS...At 17.0 feet, Portions of State Road 73 south of Newport
become flooded. Water may begin to enter the bottom floor of a
church on River Road.
At 18.0 feet, Level of berm in yard on right bank, across from
gage. No damage to house, but Jimtown Road (under Southern RR
bridge) impassable. A building behind the Newport Police building
on Main Street takes water.
At 23.4 feet, Flood of Record.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 10:00 AM EDT Friday the stage was 17.2 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 8.0 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 10:00 AM EDT Friday was 17.2 feet.
- Forecast...The river will rise to 22.0 feet this evening. It
will then fall Saturday but remain above flood stage for
perhaps several days.
- Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
