...Forecast flooding changed from Minor to Moderate severity and increased in duration for the following rivers in North Carolina... Tuckasegee River At Bryson City affecting Swain County. .Flooding exceeding the levels which occurred 2004 is occurring. This is a dangerous situation and remain wary of moderate flooding along the Tuckasegee. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. This approaches the flood of record. * WHERE...Tuckasegee River at Bryson City. * WHEN...Until early Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...At 13.5 feet, Stores along Gibson and Island streets will be flooded. Floodwater levels will be similar to the flooding that occurred on September 17, 2004. At 15.0 feet, High water levels on the Tuckasegee River will cause backwater effects along Deep Creek. The Deep Creek Campground and bridge may be shut down due to flooding. Further flooding of buildings in town will occur. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 12:16 PM EDT Friday the stage was 14.0 feet. - Action/Advisory Stage is 8.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 12:16 PM EDT Friday was 14.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 15.0 feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage early tomorrow afternoon. - Minor Flood Stage is 10.0 feet. Moderate Flood Stage is 13.5 feet.
