For the Yadkin River...including Wilkesboro, Elkin...Major flooding
is forecast.
* WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is
forecast.
* WHERE...Yadkin River at Elkin.
* WHEN...Until late tomorrow evening.
* IMPACTS...At 24.0 feet, Two to three blocks of Elkin are inundated.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 2:45 PM EDT Friday the stage was 24.1 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 16.0 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 2:45 PM EDT Friday was 24.1 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 25.0
feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage late
tomorrow morning.
- Flood stage is 18.0 feet.
- Flood History...A crest above 24.9 feet will make this the
third highest crest on record and the highest crest since
April 1983.
Instruction:
This is a very dangerous situation! Stay away from the rivers until
they recede below flood stage. The extremely strong current will
easily be able to carry people and even automobiles away, with
little chance of rescue.
