...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in North
Carolina...
Swannanoa River At Biltmore affecting Buncombe County.
* WHAT...Moderate to major flooding continues. This event has become
the flood of record for the Swannanoa River.
* WHERE...Swannanoa River at Biltmore.
* WHEN...Until this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...At 26.0 feet, Record Flood Stage. This stage last
occurred in April of 1791 according to Tennessee Valley Authority
records. Catastrophic flooding of the Swannanoa River Valley is
likely and devastating damage is likely in Biltmore Village.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 11:00 AM EDT Friday the stage was a record 22.7 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 8.5 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to fall to 2.2 feet Thursday
evening.
- Minor Flood Stage is 10.0 feet.
Moderate Flood Stage is 14.5 feet.
Major Flood Stage is is 16.5 feet.
Major Flood Stage is 16.5 feet.
- Flood History...This crest exceeds the record crest of 20.7
feet from way back in 1916!

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive
cars through flooded areas.
Most flood related deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to
cross water covered bridges, dips, or low water crossings. Caution
is urged when walking near riverbanks. Never try to cross a flowing
stream, even a small one, on foot. To escape rising water find
another route over higher ground.
