An unseasonably strong upper low will move over the islands on Friday, bringing in very unstable air for this time of year. This will be enough for a few heavy showers or thundershowers to develop in some spots. Most of these should be relatively brief, so while widespread flash flooding is unlikely, ponding of water in poor drainage areas, and maybe even some small hail, could occur in a few of the heavier downpours Friday and Friday night.

Lava fountaining episode 47 of the ongoing Halemaumau Crater eruption began this afternoon at 3:27pm HST. Web cams, satellite imagery, and radar data indicate that occasional small bursts of volcanic ash are emanating from Halemaumau Crater up to about 15,000 feet as of 4:30pm HST. Low level trade winds will likely push ash toward the southwest or west, and any ash fallout will likely occur over the Kau and South Kona Districts. Of note,
