The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulates, from 6 AM to 9 PM EDT Friday. A Code Orange Air Quality Action Day means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include children...people suffering from asthma or other lung diseases...heart diseae...and the elderly. The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or exercise outdoors.

Fine particulate levels are expected to be in the 'Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups' range. Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma should limit prolonged outdoor exposure. The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a statewide Air Quality Advisory for the entire state of Ohio as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to adversely impact air quality. Pollutants across the state are expected to range from the 'Unhealthy For Sensitive Groups' category in the southwest part of the state to the 'Unhealthy' category in the rest of the state. Hourly concentrations at times may reach the 'Very Unhealthy' to 'Hazardous' categories.

ESFGJT An anomalous plume of moisture continues to rotate into Utah and western Colorado this afternoon, with a slight uptick compared to yesterday. The San Juans remain a bullseye in precipitation forecasts this afternoon and again on Friday, maintaining flash flood threats redeveloping each afternoon. However, available moisture is higher moving west into Utah, which leaves the potential for isolated storms to produce hourly rainfall rate of 1-2 in.
