Relative humidity is forecast to fall to 20 to 25 percent across much of northeast Georgia this afternoon, while temperatures are forecast to be 2 to 3 degrees warmer than Wednesday. Winds are expected to be lighter at around 5 mph, but the low humidity combined with very dry vegetation and warm temperatures will result in an elevated threat for the rapid spread of wildfire across the area, especially this afternoon. The National Weather Service in Goodland has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 9 AM this morning to 7 PM MDT this evening. * AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 013 Sherman and 027 Wallace. * TIMING...From 9 AM this morning to 7 PM MDT this evening. * WINDS...Northwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 13 percent. * LIGHTNING...Dry lightning possible today and tomorrow, mainly during the late afternoon and early evening hours.

The combination of dry fine fuels, gusty northwesterly winds up to 25 mph and minimum relative humidity values between 20 and 30 percent will contribute to an elevated risk for fire spread today across portions of the Upper Hudson Valley, including Washington, Warren and Saratoga Counties. The lowest relative humidity values and strongest winds will occur during the afternoon hours. As a reminder, the annual statewide burn ban is in effect until May 14. No burn permits are issued. A very dry airmass remains today over inland areas of Northeast FL and Southeast GA with critically low relative humidity values below 30 percent along and just south of I-10 into the Suwannee Valley and below 25 percent west of US highway 301 in Southeast GA for 4 or more hours this afternoon. Light southeast winds of 4-8 mph over inland Southeast GA and 8-12 mph over inland Northeast FL along with dry fuels will support elevated fire danger conditions.
