* WHAT...Flooding caused by an ice jam occurring. * WHERE...Bethel, Kwethluk * WHEN...Until 645 PM AKDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. This includes Kwethluk as well as low-lying areas in Bethel including near Brown Slough and Alligator Acres. River or stream flows are elevated. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 752 AM AKDT, The River Watch Team reported water levels near 10.0 feet in Bethel at the BETA2 river gauge. These levels should remain steady or slowly rise through today with localized flooding of roads, boardwalks, and low-lying areas of Bethel and Kwethluk. An ice jam remains in place a few miles south of Bethel, between Napakiak and Oscarville- Napaskiak. Impounding water due to the ice jam will cause river rises. - For Kuskokwim River at Bethel: At 6:51am the stage was 10.0 feet. Flood Stage is 8.5 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood - If you live near or along the Kuskokwim Rover at Bethel, including Brown Slough and Alligator Acres, or Kwethluk stay alert and be prepared to take action.
