The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 800 PM HST. * At 404 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain continuing to fall over the Puna and Kau districts along the southeast slopes of the Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour with more rain expected. Emergency Management reported water over Highway 11 in multiple locations. Pahala and Naalehu are cut off. HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Significant and life threatening flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low lying areas. Multiple public road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep terrain. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... The Kau and Puna districts.
