Description:
* WHAT...Flooding caused by ice jams continues to be possible.
Reports of local shifting and movement of river ice were received
Friday evening, but the threat remains significant. This break up
season has resulted in flooding between Marshall and Grayling and
Yukon River communities further downstream should prepare for
flooding now.
* WHERE...Including the following areas: Alakanuk, Emmonak, Kotlik
and Mountain Village.
* WHEN...Through late Saturday night.
* IMPACTS...High water may result in flooding of rivers, creeks,
streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- As of Friday evening, the River Watch Team estimated the ice
jam is located several miles downstream of Marshall and is
causing water to back up into upstream communities. The ice
jam is backing up about 40 miles of chunk ice. Once this jam
releases the breakup front will progress downstream and bring
the potential for flooding to Pilot Station and St. Mary's
due to additional ice jams and heavy ice runs.
