...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS AFTERNOON AND THEN AGAIN THURSDAY... ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 8 PM CDT THURSDAY FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR PORTIONS OF CENTRAL AND SOUTH CENTRAL NEBRASKA... The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued a Red Flag Warning for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from 10 AM to 8 PM CDT Thursday. * WINDS...For the rest of today, from the south sustained 25 to 35 MPH and gusting up to around 45 MPH. For Thursday, from the west-northwest sustained 15 to 20 MPH and gusting up to around 30 MPH. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...For the rest of today, as low as 25 to 30 percent. For Thursday, as low as 10 to 15 percent. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Although relative humidity levels will not drop quite as low as they do during most Red Flag Warnings, the combination of the strong south winds and the pronounced lack of precipitation in recent months will nonetheless result in heightened wildfire danger.
