Description:
At 545 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Stony Brook, moving east at 30 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and nickel size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Centereach, Stony Brook, Middle Island, Port Jefferson, Wading River,
Coram, Farmingville, Rocky Point, Mount Sinai, Yaphank, Brookhaven
National Laboratory, Selden, Kings Park, Setauket, and St. James.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for
southeastern New York.
