Headline:
Red Flag Warning issued March 21 at 5:06PM CDT until March 22 at 4:00AM CDT by NWS Hastings NE
Event:
Red Flag Warning
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
March 21, 2026 - 3:06pm
Expires:
March 21, 2026 - 11:15pm
Description:
...CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS CONTINUE INTO TONIGHT...
* WINDS...This evening, out of the south-southwest, sustained
mainly 10 to 15 MPH and gusting up to 20 to 25 MPH. Then after
midnight tonight into early Sunday morning, abruptly turning
northerly behind a strong cold front and gusting at least 40 to
50 MPH.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 10 to 20 percent this evening, but
increasing to 30 to 60 percent by the time this Warning expires
early Sunday morning.
* IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will spread quickly. Outdoor
burning is not recommended.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This evening, winds will decrease from what
they were this afternoon and become more southerly. However,
lingering effects of record-breaking heat and unusually-low
relative humidity will still promote dangerous fire weather
conditions. Overnight, the main concern is that any potential
ongoing fires will be subject to a sharp/abrupt shift to strong
north winds behind a surging cold front. Please note that these north
winds will not reach counties along and south of the Kansas
border until shortly after this Warning officially expires.
Instruction:
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
