Description:
* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 7 to 10 feet and dangerous rip currents. * WHERE...For the High Surf Advisory, north facing reefs of the Marianas. For the High Rip Current Risk, north and east facing reefs. * WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, until 4 PM ChST this afternoon. For the High Rip Current Risk, through this afternoon. * IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Elevated northeast to east swell, reinforced by diminishing long-period north to northeast swell produced by distant low pressure systems, will continue to produce hazardous surf along north facing reefs, and a high risk of rip currents along north and east facing reefs through at least this afternoon. Swells, surf, and rip current risk will then briefly diminish, increasing once more through Monday as the northeast swell is reinforced by a building trade-wind surge. This may lead to a reissuance or extension of hazards.
Instruction:
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions. Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
