Description:
At 1231 AM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along
a line extending from near Marion to Walford to near Williamsburg.
Movement was east at 40 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and penny size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Strong winds could break small tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Cedar Rapids, Marengo, Marion, Coralville, North Liberty, Hiawatha,
Robins, Williamsburg, Fairfax, Tiffin, Ely, Atkins, Walford, Palo,
Swisher, Newhall, Oxford, Blairstown, Van Horne, and Shueyville.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 206 and 238.
Interstate 380 between mile markers 1 and 29.
Instruction:
Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 300 AM CDT for
east central Iowa.
