Special Weather Statement
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
March 28, 2026 - 12:22am
Expires:
March 28, 2026 - 5:00pm
Description:
Minimum relative humidity values between 20 and 30 percent and wind gusts mostly between 20 and 30 mph, except to around 35 mph for a few hours this morning, will lead to an increased risk for wildfires throughout central North Carolina today. This threat will be greatest from the southern Piedmont to the southern Sandhills and southern Coastal Plain, where little to no rain occurred Friday night. Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks and keep vehicles off of dry grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could easily ignite and spread fire quickly. Lastly, remember to obey local burn bans. For more information about wildfire danger, burn restrictions, and wildfire prevention and education, please visit the North Carolina forestry or environmental protection website.
