Description:
At 405 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over
Institute, or near Nitro, moving northeast at 35 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Charleston, Nitro, Jefferson, South Charleston, St. Albans, Dunbar,
Sissonville, Cross Lanes, Pinch, Alum Creek, Institute, Tornado, and
Elkview.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 79 between mile markers 1 and 10.
Interstate 77 in West Virginia between mile markers 100 and 117.
Interstate 64 in West Virginia between mile markers 45 and 57.
Route 119 between mile markers 74 and 80.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
