Northeastern Cherry County in north central Nebraska... * Until 1115 PM CDT. * At 1032 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Cody to 8 miles south of Nenzel to 13 miles southeast of Medicine Lake, moving east at 65 mph. THESE ARE DESTRUCTIVE STORMS FOR HIGHWAY 20 BETWEEN CODY AND VALENTINE. HAZARD...80 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail. SOURCE...At 1032 PM CDT, a mesonet station 4 miles southwest of Cody recorded a 79 mile per hour wind gust. IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be heavily damaged. Expect considerable damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles. Extensive tree damage and power outages are likely. * Locations impacted include... Valentine, Cody, Kilgore, Nenzel, Merritt Reservoir, Crookston, Steer Creek Campground, Anderson Bridge State Wildlife Management Area, Smith Falls State Park, Schlagel Creek State Wildlife Management Area, Highway 97 crossing the Niobrara River, and Sparks. This includes the following highways... Highway 20 between mile markers 153 and 216. Highway 97 between mile markers 115 and 141. Highway 83 between mile markers 196 and 222.
