The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has issued a Red Flag Warning for lightning, which is in effect from noon today to midnight AKDT Friday morning. * AFFECTED AREA...Upper Koyukuk Valley. * TIMING...From 12 PM Thursday to 12 AM Friday. * THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE INDEX...Scattered * WINDS...West 5 to 10 mph. * HUMIDITY...As low as 28 percent. * TEMPERATURES...Highs in the low to mid 80s. * IMPACTS...Critical fire weather conditions are expected due to scattered thunderstorms. Thunderstorms will come with frequent lightning this afternoon into the overnight. Any lightning can cause new ignitions since the fuels are dry and burnable. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Most of the thunderstorm activity will move out of the region by 12 AM Friday morning. If we notice the thunderstorm risk is ending earlier, we will act as necessary.
