The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
South Central Santa Cruz County in southeastern Arizona...
* Until 515 PM MST.
* At 218 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area, with the heaviest rain so far
just west of Interstate 19 between Nogales and Rio Rico. Between 1
and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of
0.5 to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding
is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Nogales, Rio Rico, Nogales International Airport, Patagonia Lake
State Park, Kino Springs and Pena Blanca Lake.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 19 between mile markers 1 and 13. Route 82 between mile
markers 1 and 15.
This includes the following Flash Flood Prone Locations...
Nogales Wash at Doe St Bridge and Pendleton Dr at Sonoita Creek.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
