Description: 
At 447 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near Fairfax to near Bull Run. Movement was northeast at 25 mph. HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 40 mph and half inch hail. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible. Locations impacted include... Arlington, Alexandria, Centreville, Bethesda, Reston, Annandale, Springfield, Fairfax, Vienna, Falls Church, Coral Hills, Mantua, Pimmit Hills, Mclean, Nationals Park, Howard University, Gallaudet University, American Legion Bridge, Fort Totten, and Reagan National Airport. This includes Interstate 270 in Maryland near mile marker 1.
Instruction: 
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle. These storms may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio stations and available television stations for additional information and possible warnings from the National Weather Service. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 900 PM EDT for District of Columbia...central Maryland...and northern Virginia.
