Description:
At 601 PM EDT, Doppler Radar detected a cluster of thunderstorms over
Chatham and Bryan Counties, mainly between Hunter Army Airfield and
the Ogeechee River, drifting to the Southwest. Between 2 and 3 inches
of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are
possible in the warned area. Emergency Management reports several
flooded and closed roads across the Savannah area. The heaviest
rainfall rates has shifted between Richmond Hill and Vernonburg,
roadway flooding is likely.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Emergency management reported.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Richmond Hill, Coffee Bluff, Windsor Forest, Hunter Army Airfield,
Midtown Savannah, Montgomery, Vernonburg, Fort Mcallister and
Burroughs.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
