Description:
At 732 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line
extending from Royalton to near Ava, moving east at 35 mph.
HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts.
SOURCE...Broadcast media.
IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to mobile
homes, roofs, and outbuildings.
Locations impacted include...
Carbondale, Marion, Herrin, Murphysboro, Carterville, Johnston City,
Zeigler, De Soto, Crainville, Cambria, Royalton, Energy, Elkville,
Hurst, Ava, Willisville, Dowell, Campbell Hill, Vergennes, and
Freeman Spur.
This includes Interstate 57 in Illinois between Mile Markers 55 and
60.
Instruction:
For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.
Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms.
Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading
killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to
be struck by lightning.
