At 520 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Alburnett to Cedar Rapids Municipal Airport to Ladora, moving southeast at 50 mph. HAZARD...70 mph wind gusts and penny size hail. SOURCE...Public. At 504 PM an automated weather station recorded a 65 mph wind gust 2 miles west of Newhall, Iowa. IMPACT...Expect considerable tree damage. Damage is likely to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Locations impacted include... Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Anamosa, Tipton, Marengo, West Branch, Durant, Mechanicsville, Stanwood, Marion, Coralville, North Liberty, Hiawatha, Mount Vernon, West Liberty, Robins, Williamsburg, Wilton, Belle Plaine, and Lisbon. This includes the following highways... Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 205 and 277. Interstate 380 between mile markers 1 and 34.

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM CDT for southeastern, northeastern and east central Iowa. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
