NEW INFORMATION --------------- * CHANGES TO WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - The Tropical Storm Warning has been cancelled for Coastal Jefferson, Lower Lafourche, and Lower Plaquemines * CURRENT WATCHES AND WARNINGS: - A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Lower Terrebonne * STORM INFORMATION: - About 140 miles west-southwest of New Orleans LA or about 100 miles west-southwest of Houma LA - 29.0N 92.2W - Storm Intensity 45 mph - Movement West or 270 degrees at 13 mph SITUATION OVERVIEW ------------------ Tropical Storm Bertha continues to move westward off the Louisiana coast south of Vermilion Bay, and will continue to move westward at a little faster speed. Coastal flooding has been observed at several observation stations and additional minor to moderate coastal flooding upwards of 2 to 3 feet is expected during the high tide cycle for portions of coastal Louisiana and Mississippi this morning. Light rainfall is occurring with this storm over land areas though localized brief heavy rainfall will be possible, mainly this morning for coastal areas of Mississippi and southeast Louisiana. The threat of excessive rainfall has decreased across all of southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi. Tropical Storm Warnings remain in effect for lower Terrebonne Parish, Terrebonne Bay and the adjacent open waters, but have been discontinued elsewhere. No changes to Coastal Flood Warnings and Advisories have occurred with this advisory package. POTENTIAL IMPACTS ----------------- * WIND: Potential impacts from the main wind event are now unfolding across Lower Terrebonne Parish. Remain well sheltered from hazardous wind having possible limited impacts. These impacts include: - Damage to porches, awnings, carports, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Unsecured lightweight objects blown about. - Many large tree limbs broken off. A few trees snapped or uprooted, but with greater numbers in places where trees are shallow rooted. Some fences and roadway signs blown over. - A few roads impassable from debris, particularly within urban or heavily wooded places. Hazardous driving conditions on bridges and other elevated roadways. - Scattered power and communications outages. Elsewhere across Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi, little to no impact is anticipated. * SURGE: Potential limited impacts from the main surge event are now unfolding across portions of Coastal Southeast Louisiana and Coastal Mississippi. These impacts include: - Localized inundation with storm surge flooding mainly along immediate shorelines and in low-lying spots, or in areas farther inland near where higher surge waters move ashore. - Sections of near-shore roads and parking lots become overspread with surge water. Driving conditions dangerous in places where surge water covers the road. - Moderate beach erosion. Heavy surf also breaching dunes, mainly in usually vulnerable locations. Strong rip currents. - Minor to locally moderate damage to marinas, docks, boardwalks, and piers. A few small craft broken away from moorings. Elsewhere across Southeast Louisiana and South Mississippi, little to no impact is anticipated.
