* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible. * WHERE...A portion of northern Michigan, including the following counties, Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau. * WHEN...Until 515 AM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 207 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Traverse City, Elk Rapids, Empire, Sleeping Bear Point, Bingham, Glen Arbor, Cedar, Lake Ann, Fouch, Maple City, Greilickville, Burdickville, Traverse City State Park, Platte Township, Glen Haven, Williamsburg, Bates and Good Harbor. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
