Description:
* WHAT...For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions
with heat index values up to 100. For the Heat Advisory, heat index
values up to 95 expected.
* WHERE...Portions of central, south central, southeast, southwest,
and west central Minnesota and west central Wisconsin.
* WHEN...For the Extreme Heat Warning, until 9 PM CDT this evening.
For the Heat Advisory, from 9 PM this evening to 9 PM CDT Thursday.
* IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat
illnesses. Prolonged heat waves lead to cumulative heat stress for
those who cannot adequately cool down and recover each night.
Cumulative heat stress significantly increases the risk of heat
exhaustion and heat stroke as time goes on.
Instruction:
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.
