The National Weather Service in El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa has extended
the
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Southeastern Luna County in southwestern New Mexico...
* Until 1100 PM MDT.
* At 919 PM MDT, Radar estimates between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain
have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing. Emergency management and
trained spotters have reported flooding of low water crossings
across highways; also NMDOT reports NM State Hwy 9 is closed from
MM60-MM80.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
producing flash flooding.
SOURCE...Emergency management reported.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Instruction:
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
In hilly terrain there are numerous low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain.
Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
