Description:
* WHAT...A Typhoon Watch is in effect through at least Tuesday night.
* WHERE...Marianas Coastal Waters.
* IMPACTS...Winds of near 150 kt with gusts to 180 kt. Seas of up to
45 feet.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Typhoon conditions, including winds of 64
knots or more, are possible within the next 48 to 72 hours as
Typhoon Bavi (09W) approaches the region. Bavi, now a category 4
typhoon, is undergoing rapid intensification and may approach the
islands as a Category 5 super typhoon. However, there is still
uncertainty as to which islands will receive the strongest impacts.
The latest model guidance continues to indicate a path between
Rota and Tinian, but the forecast track will see adjustments over
the next 48 hours. All of the islands will see impacts, but the
islands closest to the center's passage will experience
significantly worse conditions.
Instruction:
Prepare for the passage of a strong typhoon sometime around Monday.
Secure all vessels. Conditions are expected to be catastrophic for
small craft, and extremely dangerous for any vessels of larger size.
As Bavi approaches, stay in safe harbor.
