Description:
At 630 AM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Smoky Mountains-Newfound Gap, or 8 miles southeast of Gatlinburg,
moving southwest at 10 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Gatlinburg, Smoky Mountains-Kuwohi, Smoky Mountains-Newfound Gap,
Smoky Mountains-Balsam Mountain, Pittman Center, Elkmont, and Great
Smoky Mountains National Park.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
Torrential rainfall is also occurring with this storm and may lead to
localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded
roadways.
Persons in campgrounds should consider seeking sturdy shelter until
this storm passes.
