West Nueces River At Brackettville affecting Uvalde and Kinney Counties. * WHAT...Major flooding is occurring and major flooding is forecast. * WHERE...West Nueces River at Brackettville. * WHEN...From this morning to late tonight. * IMPACTS...At 26.0 feet, Major flooding extends several hundred yards into the flood plain severely scouring roads and fences. Livestock are threatened from the headwaters to the Nueces River confluence. Residents of lowest homes downstream in Crystal City are threatened. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 6:30 AM CDT Wednesday the stage was 21.9 feet. - Bankfull stage is 9.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 6:30 AM CDT Wednesday was 21.9 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 26.0 feet this morning. It will then fall below flood stage late this afternoon. - Flood stage is 15.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 27.1 feet on 09/24/1955. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. Most flood related deaths occur in automobiles. Do not attempt to cross water covered bridges, dips, or low water crossings. Never try to cross a flowing stream, even a small one, on foot. To escape rising water find another route over higher ground. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas.
