Devils River At Pafford Crossing nr Comstock affecting Val Verde County. * WHAT...Major flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Devils River at Pafford Crossing nr Comstock. * WHEN...Until early Monday morning. * IMPACTS...At 14.0 feet, (4.3 meters), Major flooding. Life threatening flooding for recreationists above Paffords Crossing to Amistad Reservoir. Flow is near 150,000 cfs. Livestock should be moved from areas vulnerable to major flooding. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 12:15 PM CDT Saturday the stage was 2.4 feet. - Bankfull stage is 4.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage this afternoon to a crest of 14.6 feet this evening. It will then fall below flood stage tomorrow afternoon. - Flood stage is 5.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 14.5 feet on 10/11/1981. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock you off your feet and a depth of 2 feet will float your car. Never try to walk, swim, or drive through such swift water.
