Devils River At Pafford Crossing nr Comstock affecting Val Verde County. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Devils River at Pafford Crossing nr Comstock. * WHEN...Until late tonight. * IMPACTS...At 8.0 feet, (2.4 meters), Moderate flooding covers several hundred yards of the flood plain. Campers, automobiles and equipment can be washed downstream below Juno to Amistad Reservoir. Livestock should be moved from flood prone areas of the flood plain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1:15 AM CDT Sunday the stage was 7.9 feet. - Bankfull stage is 4.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 1:15 AM CDT Sunday was 11.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage late this afternoon and continue falling to 2.7 feet early Friday morning. - Flood stage is 5.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 7.9 feet on 09/23/1990. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock you off your feet and a depth of 2 feet will float your car. Never try to walk, swim, or drive through such swift water. If you come upon flood waters, stop, turn around and go another way. Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
