Frio River Near Derby affecting Frio County. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. * WHERE...Frio River near Derby. * WHEN...Until early Thursday morning. * IMPACTS...At 14.0 feet, Significant crop and pastureland flooding below Uvalde to Choke Canyon Reservoir floods oil well pump jacks, irrigation pumps and any equipment in the flood plain. Numerous secondary roads and low bridges are flooded. Livestock are cut off and potentially drowned in low areas of the flood plain. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 7:30 PM CDT Sunday the stage was 14.5 feet. - Bankfull stage is 6.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 7:30 PM CDT Sunday was 16.2 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage early Wednesday afternoon and continue falling to 4.3 feet Friday evening. - Flood stage is 6.0 feet. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Even 6 inches of fast-moving flood water can knock you off your feet and a depth of 2 feet will float your car. Never try to walk, swim, or drive through such swift water. If you come upon flood waters, stop, turn around and go another way. Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks. To escape rising water, take the shortest path to higher ground.
