Description:
At 540 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms produced heavy
rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have
fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Buckhannon, Weston, Philippi, Audra State Park, Belington, Rock
Cave, Stonewall Jackson, Junior, Lost Creek, Jane Lew, Womelsdorf
(Coalton), Montrose, Overhill, Tallmansville, Hodgesville,
Ellamore, Volga, Century and Lorentz.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 79 between mile markers 96 and 113. Route 33 between mile
markers 1 and 7...and between mile markers 15 and 17...and between
mile markers 31 and 35.
Flooding has been reported along Gum and Boggess Streets in
Buckhannon. Be especially cautious when traveling this morning.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
