The National Weather Service in Charleston has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Northeastern McDowell County in southern West Virginia...
Southwestern Wyoming County in southern West Virginia...
* Until 800 PM EDT.
* At 623 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain in Anawalt and Jenkinjones. Between 1 and 2 inches of
rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches
are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already
occurring. There were several reports of flash flooding this past
afternoon, including most recently, fast moving water over Skyberry
Hill Road near the intersection Jenkinjones Road near Anawalt, from
the Tug Fork.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Welch, Gary, Northfork, Davy, Keystone, Anawalt, Kimball,
Jenkinjones and Maybeury.
Additional showers and thunderstorms to the west will move across the
warned area over the next hour or two.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
