Description:
* WHAT...Very cold wind chills varying from the single digits to
around minus 10 degrees fahrenheit, except around minus 15 in
Grants and Taos.
* WHERE...Portions of west central, southwest, south central, and
central New Mexico including Albuquerque and Taos.
* WHEN...From midnight Tuesday Night to 11 AM MST Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...Very cold wind chill temperatures could result in
hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...East wind gusts up to 55 mph are also
forecast below canyons opening into the middle and lower Rio
Grande and into the upper Tularosa Valley, including Albuquerque
and Carrizozo, Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. In
addition, the potential exists for up to one inch of snow in the
Rio Grande Valley and around Gallup, with 1 to 3 inches elsewhere,
except for locally higher amounts on mountain peaks and
east-facing slopes.
Instruction:
Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a
hat, and gloves.
Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure
portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills
inside.
Be prepared for snow packed and icy roads, drive carefully, and
allow extra travel time.
