Description:
...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY AFTERNOON FOR POTENTIAL STRONG NORTH TO NORTHEAST WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR MUCH OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES... .While there is still some uncertainty in next week's wind event, the most likely outcome is for strong north to northeast winds with an extended period of Red Flag conditions. While the longer duration of strong winds is expected to be focused across Los Angeles and Ventura counties, there is a 20-30 percent chance of shorter duration Red Flag conditions across portions of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Due to the potential for damaging winds, there will be an increased risk for downed trees and powerlines, as well as power outages. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a Fire Weather Watch for potential strong north to northeast winds and low relative humidity, which is in effect from late Tuesday morning through Friday afternoon. * WINDS...Most Likely Outcome--Strong north to northeast wind event Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday evening with sustained winds of 35 to 50 mph with damaging wind gusts of 55 to 80 mph. Strongest winds likely in the mountains, foothills, and valleys. Moderate north to northeast winds will likely persist Thursday into Friday. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Most Likely Outcome--Humidities likely falling to between 20 and 30 percent in many areas Tuesday afternoon into night, then widespread 10 percent or less Wednesday into Friday. * IMPACTS...If fire ignition occurs, conditions are favorable for rapid fire spread and extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and property. There will be the potential for downed trees and powerlines, as well as power outages. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...While the most likely outcome is for a strong north to northeast wind event (60% chance), there is still a 30% chance of a moderate event, and a 10% chance of a weak event.
