Description: 
At 605 PM EDT, FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR SOUTH SHORE AREA. Emergency management reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 4 and 8 inches of rain have fallen. This is an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION with reports of major flash flooding occurring in and around South Shore along Route 7. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Emergency management reported. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Letitia, South Shore, Grays Branch and South Portsmouth. This includes the following streams and drainages... Brushy Creek, Right Fork Smith Branch, Little Oak Creek, White Oak Creek, Beechy Creek, Dry Fork, Schultz Creek, Lower White Oak Creek, Blackbird Branch and Tygarts Creek.
Instruction: 
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely. Report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.
