* Until 345 PM AST.
* At 1243 PM AST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Up to 1 inch of rain has
fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible
in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms with heavy
rains and associated excessive runoff.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Quick rises
along rivers and streams.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Yabucoa, Maunabo, Humacao, Patillas, Emajagua, Martorell, Playita,
La Fermina, Palmas, Anton Ruiz, Punta Santiago, Rosa Sanchez, Palo
Seco, Comunas, El Negro, Candelero Arriba, Lamboglia, Yaurel and
Bajandas.
Instruction:
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not
drive on flooded roads.Stay away or be swept away. River banks and
culverts can become unstable and unsafe.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
