Description:
At 143 AM HST, radar and automated rain gauges indicated locally
heavy rain falling over the Kau District of the Big Island. Rain was
falling at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour. Emergency management
officials reports multiple road closures across the Puna and Kau
Districts of the Big Island. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected
to begin shortly in these areas.
Heavy rainfall has ended over the rest of the island with stream and
river gauges continuing to fall. The Flash Flood Warning for areas
outside of the Puna and Kau Districts has been cancelled.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE...Emergency management.
IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
in steep terrain.

Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Wood
Valley, Pahala, Volcano, Punaluu Beach, Glenwood, Kawa Flats,
Mountain View, Naalehu, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands Estates,
Keaau, Pahoa, Hawaiian Ocean View, Fern Forest, Eden Roc, Fern
Acres and Waiohinu.
Instruction:
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don't drown.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
