* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. * WHERE...A portion of central Virginia, including the following counties, Amherst, Appomattox and Buckingham. * WHEN...Until 930 PM EDT. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 623 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - This includes the following streams and drainages... Brick Kiln Branch, Blackfoot Creek, Appomattox River, Bent Creek, Beasley Creek, Abbott Branch, Alabama Creek, Buffalo River, Allens Creek, Bear Branch and Bowler Creek. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1.5 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Amherst... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe.
