...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in
Virginia...West Virginia...
New River at Radford affecting City of Radford, Pulaski and
Montgomery independent cities.
New River Near Galax affecting Carroll, City of Galax and Grayson
independent cities.
New River at Allisonia affecting Pulaski and Wythe Counties.
New River at Glen Lyn affecting Giles, Summers, Monroe and Mercer
Counties.
For the New River...including Galax, Allisonia, Radford, Glen Lyn,
Hinton...Major flooding is forecast.
* WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and major flooding is
forecast.
* WHERE...New River at Radford.
* WHEN...Until late Sunday evening.
* IMPACTS...At 28.0 feet, Green Hill Apartments parking lot floods
and Radford University student apartment parking lots are affected.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 12:15 PM EDT Friday the stage was 18.0 feet.
- Bankfull stage is 10.0 feet.
- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours
ending at 12:15 PM EDT Friday was 18.0 feet.
- Forecast...The river is expected to rise to a crest of 27.0
feet tomorrow evening. It will then fall below flood stage
Sunday afternoon.
- Flood stage is 14.0 feet.
Instruction:
This is a very dangerous situation! Stay away from the rivers until
they recede below flood stage. The extremely strong current will
easily be able to carry people and even automobiles away, with
little chance of rescue.
