...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Virginia...West Virginia... New River At Glen Lyn affecting Giles, Summers, Monroe and Mercer Counties. New River At Radford affecting Pulaski, Montgomery and the City of Radford. New River Near Galax affecting City of Galax, along with Grayson and Carroll Counties. New River AT Allisonia affecting Pulaski and Wythe Counties. .Major Flooding is occurring at Radford and Glen Lyn on the New River. Moderate flooding is occurring at Galax and Allisonia on the New River. For the New River...including Radford and Glen Lyn...Major flooding is forecast. * WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring and moderate flooding is forecast. This approaches the flood of record. * WHERE...New River at Allisonia. * WHEN...Until early Sunday afternoon. * IMPACTS...At 9.0 feet, Parts of Julia Simpkins Road, Route 693 on the right bank are cut off. At 10.0 feet, Water is several feet deep along portions of Clarks Ferry Road, Route 653. At 13.0 feet, Several summer homes along the river are flooded with possibly significant damage. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 11:30 AM EDT Saturday the stage was 16.9 feet. - Bankfull stage is 7.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 11:30 AM EDT Saturday was 21.9 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage just after midnight tonight and continue falling to 3.0 feet Thursday morning. - Flood stage is 8.0 feet. - Flood History...The crest of 21.9 feet around 1 AM Saturday compares to a previous crest of 16.6 feet on 11/07/1977. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
