* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of southeast New Mexico, including the following county, central Chaves. * WHEN...Until 1215 PM MDT. * IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1108 AM MDT, local law enforcement has reported numerous road closures in an area extending from Roswell southward to Lake Arthur, including on State Highway 380 to Bottomless Lakes State Park and State Road 2 between Hagerman and Lake Arthur. - Flooding impacts will continue, but no additional rainfall is expected. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Arroyos, streams, and normally dry rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes. Water in arroyos can travel many miles and take hours to reach your location from upstream rain areas.
