NIIHAU OAHU AND MOLOKAI AND FOR NORTH FACING SHORES OF MAUI...
.The first of a series of large to extra large (310 degrees)
northwest swells is due this weekend. Long period forerunners are
expected Saturday morning, will build quickly down the island
chain Saturday afternoon and peak Saturday night and early
Sunday. The warning will likely need to be expanded to include
the exposed west facing shores of the Big Island on Saturday.
* WHAT...Surf of 10 to 15 feet, rapidly building to 20 to 30 feet
Saturday afternoon along north facing shores of Niihau, Kauai,
Oahu, Molokai and Maui. Surf of 8 to 12 feet, rapidly building
to 15 to 22 feet by Saturday afternoon along west facing shores
of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and Molokai.
* WHERE...North and west facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, and
Molokai, and north facing shores of Maui.
* WHEN...From noon Saturday to 6 PM HST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...High. Expect very strong breaking waves and powerful
currents. Waves breaking in channel entrances may make
navigating the channels dangerous.
Instruction:
Stay away from the shoreline along the affected coasts. Be
prepared for road closures. Postpone entering or leaving channels
affected by the high surf until the surf subsides.
