Special Weather Statement
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
January 1, 2025 - 11:46am
Expires:
January 1, 2025 - 7:00pm
Description:
A secondary surge of much colder air several thousand feet above ground will lead to an increase in coverage and intensity in snow showers this evening. Road temperatures initially in the mid 30s to low 40s freezing will quickly drop to near or below freezing after the snow showers begin and the sun sets. The reduced traction and visibility of a heavy snow shower can make travel very dangerous very quickly. Snowfall amounts will be generally one inch or less, but the bulk of that accumulation could occur in under an hour. Use extra caution if you must travel this evening. Slow down and consider exiting the highway. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads may lead to accidents. Please use extreme caution and allow plenty of stopping distance. Avoid braking suddenly.
