Description:
At 1017 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near
Baxter Springs, moving northeast at 50 mph.
HAZARD...Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and nickel size hail.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around
unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is
possible.
Locations impacted include...
Northwestern Joplin, Webb City, Carl Junction, Baxter Springs,
Columbus, Galena, Oronogo, Carterville, Airport Drive, Lowell, Alba,
Purcell, Carytown, Asbury, Neck City, Treece, Waco, Picher, Neutral,
and Riverton.
This includes Interstate 49 between mile markers 48 and 53.
Instruction:
If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.
This storm may intensify, so be certain to monitor local radio
stations and available television stations for additional information
and possible warnings from the National Weather Service.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect until 400 AM CDT for
southeastern Kansas...and southwestern Missouri.
