Special Weather Statement
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
December 2, 2024 - 6:35am
Expires:
December 2, 2024 - 6:45pm
Description:
Over the last 30 hours, portions of the southern panhandle have
seen heavy rain with rainfall accumulations of over 1 inch,
ranging to over 7 inches in parts of Ketchikan.
Heavy rain is expected to continue through Monday with another 1.5
to 3.5 inches, more at higher elevation, through 3 PM Monday.
Runoff will have a difficult time keeping up with this amount of
rain, particularly in areas where the ground froze over the last
week. Expect ponding of water on roadways and for flashy creeks to
spike up. Boat owners should check on their vessels.
After a short-lived lull in the rain Monday night, another round
of moderate to heavy rain is expected for Tuesday. 24 hour
rainfall totals on Tuesday are expected to be 1 to 3 inches across
the south.
Each round of heavy rain will have strong winds with gusts greater
than 40 mph likely.
Please let the National Weather Service office know if you are
seeing impacts from this rainfall.
